The Workshop
The All Inclusive Sarajevo Workshop was held from May 25 to 29, 2009 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. During the five-day workshop, led by Julia Cassim, of the Helen Hamlyn Centre, the design teams came up with textile, graphic and metal products prototypes, using the existing manufacturing resources of participating organizations as well as the skills of the highly- skilled craftsmen employed there.
The design teams were given the brief to create different objects that would best utilize the production capabilities of the local partner organizations: the Association of Deaf and Hearing Impaired Persons of Canton Sarajevo, Centre for Self-Reliance, Pismolik and Librag. The design solutions needed to be contemporary, designer items appealing to different target audiences; innovative and simple to produce. The teams were asked to build a design-based business plan and design guidelines and find effective ways of branding and marketing the collections in order to provide a more effective income stream to the firms and preserve the integrity of the final designs. The products were prototyped during the program and finalized to the point that they could be put into production upon the decision of the beneficiary manufacturers.
There were forty six participants divided into four teams, each was to design a product or collection of products for one of the partner organizations. The participants were a lively and diverse group, with people from different age groups, cultural backgrounds and different professional experience.

Radionica
